We are in Barcelona
We made it! Yesterday afternoon we landed in Barcelona and moved in to our new apartment. We are still recovering from the travel with Farrah and her giant crate and all our luggage. The jet lag hasn’t worn off yet and I’m in a bit of a daze, but now we can settle in and relax a bit. Farrah traveled like a champ! She is loving the adventure!
So far, Barcelona appears to be a very dog-friendly city. There are people walking dogs everywhere, and most places seem to allow dogs, with exceptions like grocery stores.
Yesterday we went to the grocery store to pick up some basics and there was an entire section for jamón. It was like a dream.
Already I’m noticing some interesting differences from life in Phoenix:
eggs were not in a refrigerated case, they’re just in a row with other non-refrigerated stuff. It took me a long time to find them as I kept looking in all the refrigerated sections!
there is no layer of desert dust on everything
the sidewalks are wide, with enough room for lots of outdoor eating, pedestrians (and dogs), and buffer between you and the traffic
there are teams of people cleaning the sidewalks all the time. Everywhere we’ve been so far is very clean, with little litter
good wine is CHEAP. Last night we had some fantastic wine by the glass, ranging from €3 to €4 (about $3.21 to $4.28). They were generous pours, and easily would have been $12-$14 in Phoenix
lots of places are closed on Sunday, even grocery stores
We’re doing laundry and running the dishwasher this morning. So domestic! The washer/dryer is a single unit, and I’m trying out the wash/dry cycle but we will probably mostly dry things on the balcony on a drying rack. Not having a separate washer and dryer is a big change, though the capacity of this machine is better than I expected.
More to come! Here is a photo of me enjoying my first bites of jamon!
