Farrah rides the subway
Yesterday was a big day: Farrah rode the subway for the first time! She did very well, even though she was clearly nonplussed by the crowds. But there was no whimpering, no barking, no skittishness. To those wondering, yes, you are allowed to bring your dog on the subway (and the tram) in Barcelona, though not on the bus.
Going down in to the Marina station, a bit unsure of where we are going but curious enough not to complain.
Waiting on the platform for the train - I was so mortified she would decide to pee or poop because it was probably confusing to her whether she was outside or inside. But there were no pootastrophes.
Miro’s Woman and Bird in the Parc Joan Miro. We met up with the dogsitters who will be watching Farrah when we are back in the United States in early May. She and their dachshund got along, thankfully, so all is well. Getting to see this fantastic sculpture was a bonus!
We decided to find a place for lunch in the area and Jim discovered a great spot, Pulpería A Gudiña. The zorza (#37), a traditional Galician chorizo hash, reminded us of the Mexican style chorizo we would enjoy in Phoenix. The cargolins de mar (#1, sea snails) came in really cool little shells, and you pulled them out one by one with a toothpick. They were served cooked but cold, without anything extra, and were good but we would enjoy them more with some herbs or oil or butteriness. We did the typical Spanish thing, and ate on the sidewalk with Farrah, ordering a bunch of different things to share over a glass of white wine. They do know how to eat and relax here!
The restaurant was in an amazing building that had snails crawling on it! These are the supports under the balconies, each one with a big snail. Kind of funny to sit below this as we ate sea snails! I continue to be astounded at the amazing architectural details we stumble upon on a regular basis.
These posters for an upcoming exhibit at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona are intriguing: the exhibit is on suburbia and the American dream. I am looking forward to this one!
