The everyday becomes extraordinary

Yesterday we went hat shopping, for two reasons. One, we needed some warmer knit caps, as being ex-Phoenicians, warm knit caps are not something in our repertoire. Two, we wanted to get some of those flat-bill caps, to replace our baseball caps. Jim found a location of Up Headwear convenient to our walk home from the gym, in El Born, which personally (I don’t want to speak for Jim) is becoming my favorite neighborhood in Barcelona for passing time.

So here I am, thinking we are just running an errand on the way home from the gym to find some hats, and we enter the little shop and my mouth drops. It was like being inside a little ornate jewel box.

The floor was an Escher-esque pattern, and the displays were ornate, warm, wooden cabinets. Look closely at the bottom of the two doors and you will notice a dapper gentleman in a top hat, and what appears to be a woman holding an owl (not sure what the significance is there). I was having a hard time perusing the hat selection due to my distraction from all these incredible details. Then I looked up….

Gorgeous! Notice the date, 1786?

Beats shopping for hats at the local strip mall, no?
